What systems do other people use to reduce their rubbish?

On Thursday we popped over to Kindy to see what 'systems' they use to reduce rubbish.
They have so much going on!

They use a compost bin to break down all the leaves that fall off the trees.

They have a lasange garden.... that breaks down all the cardboard that would normally fill our landfill!

But BEST of all they have 3 worm farms!

These worm farms are filled with Tiger Worms and they eat up all the food scraps!

The worm 'cast' (poos) is great for fertilising the garden and the Kindy even sell the worm wees too!

Can you find the tiger worms?

This is a new one ready to be set up.

And this is one some of our kids have helped to set up

But it wasn't all hard work and learning.... we managed to have a play too.
Thanks Kahikatea Kindergarten for having us to visit!

  1. Wow! Live it looks like you had lots if fun while learning all about compost and waste management. Maybe we need to take another look at what goes into your lunch box to see if we can reduce rubbish. Lucky we have our chickens to eat all of our food scraps and turn them into yummy eggs!

  2. Thanks Mum it is amazing to hear from you. The one that lays the brown eggs is the best.
